The ICAA and Patrick O’Connell invite you to immerse yourself in an afternoon of design and delight at The Inn at Little Washington. The afternoon will begin with a two-course luncheon at Patty O’s, the newest restaurant in Little Washington by Michelin three-star Chef Patrick O’Connell.

Following lunch, guests will embark on a tour of The Inn at Little Washington’s campus, a historical restoration of Little Washington 46 years in the making. The tour will feature stops at 6 of the Inn’s restored structures including the Inn’s kitchen, public spaces, guestrooms and gardens.

After the tour, you will have the opportunity to retreat to the Colonial Ballroom for a “Past, Present and Future" presentation on the evolution of the iconic inn. The event concludes with a dessert and Q&A reception on the veranda with Chef Patrick O’Connell and Architect Michael Franck.

This rare event is open to interior designers, architects, building artisans, landscape architects, contractors, patrons and enthusiasts of history, architecture, interior design, and culture. Two AIA HSW credits are pending.

Instructors:

Patrick O’Connell, Chef & Sole Proprietor of Patty O's, a native of Washington, DC, is a self-taught chef who pioneered a refined, regional American cuisine in the Virginia countryside. In 1978, Patrick opened The Inn at Little Washington in a former garage in the tiny town of Washington, VA.

Patrick and The Inn have gone on to enjoy worldwide recognition and regularly host celebrities, politicians, and culinary enthusiasts. He has been referred to as "the Pope of American Cuisine" and in 2019, won the Lifetime Achievement award from the James Beard Foundation. In November of the same year, he received the National Humanities Medal from the President of the United States. He holds honorary Doctorate degrees from both The College of William and Mary and Johnson and Wales University.

Michael Franck has consistently put his expertise to use in delivering world-class traditional architecture. In 2023 Michael began his current venture, Michael M Franck Architect. His previous firm, Franck & Lohsen Architects, earned distinction for creating timeless and elegant designs, often with buildings or regions that are highly sensitive to their historic nature. Michael continues that legacy.

Michael has a particular talent for sketching and keeps a design sketchbook for most every project. In meetings with clients and the team, he can rapidly depict differing proposals as three-dimensional drawings, thus ensuring that everyone understands each facet of the project before proceeding to the next step.
